If you consistently lose games that you're supposed to win, there is a major problem. And people are going to complain.
We as fans need to understand that the Honor Code didn't lose to Toledo or USF. The tough admissions standards didn't lose to Toledo and USF. The lack of P5 membership didn't lose to Toledo or USF. Those losses had nothing to do with those factors that so many complain about. Those losses are almost completely on coaching.
The coaching has become so suspect the past couple years. We see lack of preparation, inability to adjust in games, deer-in-the-headlights looks from players, pedestrian schematics approaches, mind boggling play calls, and players saying "we just have to trust the position the coaches put us in."
It it just the schedule? Is the schedule too tough? For this team and coaching staff? Yes. Is it too tough for what BYU should be able to face? Not at all.
BYU gets sufficient talent to piece together winning seasons every year. Coaches at BYU need to coach up talent and create schemes that cover players' weaknesses vis-a-vis other power teams, but there is enough. Instead we have coaches that dumb down schemes and say that there isn't enough talent. Well, there was before they got here. We just didn't have a scheme that was foolish and dumb. A good coach can find ways to win with the talent level they have.
