I still see lots of posts that want to dismiss the struggles of the defense with

complaints about the offense. The offense has indeed struggled to put points on the board at times. Killing drives with mistakes, penalties, poor play calls, and lapses in execution. Seems like most want to buy into this false dichotomy of either or, in terms of the blame... it never is either or it is a combination. But sometimes you get to historically poor performance.

Boise's 25 points was the season low for points allowed. To this point in the season BYU is allowing 29.7 points per game. That's crazy and historically bad. When Jamie Hill was fired in 2010, the defense was doing better in terms of points allowed at 28.8 points per game. Even if you adjust for the pick sixes vs. Utah we're allowing just below 28 points per game. And it isn't like other years the defense hasn't had to deal with turnovers deep in their own territory. Boise was a huge improvement (aided by the weather) but this team has got to figure out how to stop the run.
