The USS Enterprise was an aircraft carrier. My sister bought a book that detailed the actions of the Enterprise during WWII. I was able to read the book focusing on the time my grandfather was stationed on the carrier.

The biggest threat to an aircraft carrier was kamikaze pilots. It was hit twice by Japanese kamikaze pilots. The second attack disabled the carrier from additional action. It headed back to Pearl Harbor for repairs.

The Japanese pilot that hit the ship somehow didn't get blown up in the process. His attack probably killed 15 sailors and once again damaged the ship from continued action. He was dead but his plane never blew up in the process, it was lodged underneath deck of the carrier.

The sailors on the Enterprise thought to give him a proper sea burial. I just thought it was interesting. They had respect for their enemy, especially the kamikaze pilots.
