WW1 has pretty much always been viewed in a similar respect that is, it is a
tragedy so many lives were lost on both sides.
Sure if you look at 20th century Japan within a vacuum they are aggressors, if you look at it from the big picture they were trying to colonize and play the western-man's game. Their fanaticism and ruthlessness was obviously horrific, but don't think that without those crimes that they could have played the game that the Brit's and Europe had being playing for centuries.
