Funny story. About 20 years ago I had an old Mercury Tracer

that the battery cables were ruined due to corrosion and I just took it in to have a local guy my dad trusted swap them out.

$50.

Ok, sounds good for new cables!

I come back and all he did was snip the ends off of the factory cables and patch in two new contacts.

Worked though.

So far it sounds like a failing starter motor or a bad/corroded ground connection at the battery.

Check your battery terminals and cables. Take them off and clean with a terminal
