I was kind of the token, loner BYU fan my age. The only other BYU fans weren’t real sporty people, and the whole school knew I was a huge BYU fan. So I was the target of all of the BYU haters all throughout my growing up years. I constantly had people getting in my face, gloating, texting me, decorating my car with Ute decor, etc. whenever BYU lost. I was always the one whose face Ute fans would get in to celebrate their victories.

The other day I was at a get together with some high school friends, and they had the Ute game on. One of my friends expressed to me that he couldn’t understand why I wouldn’t cheer for Utah when they’re not playing BYU.

What an absurd question. I told him he was completely clueless for not getting it. I have had too many experiences with Ute fans and a lifetime of building resentment for everything associated with that institution to ever wish them any amount of success.
