I expected BYU to win but I also thought there was a possibility they wouldn’t. I’d watched sdsu live at Hawaii last week and saw how they limited Hawaii’s offense which is a much better offense than BYU’s and I knew it was going to be tough to score on them. I didn’t expect only 3 points but I really thought it would be low scoring and close.

But many on here had somehow gotten it into their minds that BYU isn’t as bad on offense as they actually are, and also that SDSU was “below” BYU which was ridiculous considering who BYU had previously lost to this season.

There were people on here dismissing SDSU out of hand saying BYU would put up 40 points on them (probably the most delusional claim I saw but not the only one) and that losing to SDSU would be the equivalent of losing to Toledo and USF.

And because they actually believed that sort of delusional thinking they are now distraught over the loss to a degree much greater than it deserves. Certainly losing sucks, it always sucks, and especially when it is to a program you probably should be better than but the divide between BYU and a team like SDSU is not very big as we saw last night. They are our contemporary much more so than most of the P5 schools.

So the issue as to why people want to hang themselves today is they had an unrealistic expectation and so it was a gut punch for them.

Yes BYU should be better than a school like SDSU but anyone that paid actual attention this season knew that they aren’t currently better than SDSU or any other higher end G5. They’re gonna beat some of them and lose to some of them and if they play Hawaii in the Hawaii bowl they could very well lose to them also as Hawaii’s offense is much, much, better than BYU’s offense. BYU will need to actually take the game seriously and play much better than they did against SDSU because it will not be a gimme and it’s probably time CBers figure that out or else they’re gonna have the bluest Christmas they’ve ever had.
