I was wrong, the ref missed it.
I looked it up. If the defender knocked the ball away it was the wrong call. At that point it is a loose ball. Refs missed it.

And yet the announcers, after seeing clearly that the Utah player knocked it loose, claimed it was the right call.

Yeah, I guess I don't know the rule, but that confused me too. The Utah guy knocked it out of our guy's hands
