Just to play devils advocate
It appeared the deflection was down and the deflection into the backcourt was by the offensive player when his knee knocked it backwards. Every showing of the rule states the the deflection towards the backcourt needs to be by the defense. That the only logic I can see as to why that was the call.

And yet the announcers, after seeing clearly that the Utah player knocked it loose, claimed it was the right call.

Yeah, I guess I don't know the rule, but that confused me too. The Utah guy knocked it out of our guy's hands
