because Johnson wanted more diversity in Star Wars. It's like the people a while back that wanted Captain America to get with Bucky. It is contrived and only seeks to score woke points rather than craft a deep and interesting story. I have zero problems with gay characters or minority characters, just make sure they're good characters. If you can't make them good, then don't just include them for the sake of diversity.
