To clarify and add information to my position:
1. I agree that not all LDS kids are a fit for BYU
2. The LDS recruiting pool is much bigger than in LaVell's day
3. BYU is getting a SMALLER PERCENTAGE of the top LDS kids than ever before
4. BYU's lack of P5 stature is absolutely hurting recruiting
5. BYU's failure to win big as an independent has exacerbated the recruiting problems
6. If BYU was recruiting the same historical PERCENTAGE of top LDS kids, BYU would be a top program
7. Lack of P5 affiliation has a compounding effect. BYU loses a couple of top kids to the yewts due to conference affiliation, which causes BYU to lose more games. Recruits then start choosing yewtah, because they are the better team. Once the snowball starts to roll down hill, it is difficult to stop.
Julian didn't get an offer from BYU, because he grew up a yewt fan and told BYU he wasn't interested. Had BYU continued to dominate Utah in football, he may have looked at BYU.
Mika is an RM and absolutely fits the BYU mold. He likely backed out of his commitment, because he wanted to be in a better conference and program. How does your response rebut this reality?
