She changed her tune on fluoride when we ended up having to put her 4 year old to sleep to fix his mouthful of cavities, and I talked her through the concept of risks/benefits and then I started trying to teach her how the evidence pyramid works. I think the evidence pyramid is the key to helping non-scientific people bridge the gap to those in the world of science.

I never did end up fully convincing her that the risks of the diseases that vaccines prevented were greater than risks of side effects of vaccines, but she did admit that vaccines were probably a good thing, but her new sticking point was that it was all about the number of vaccines given at one time that was the problem and that if they would spread them out that would be better. Smart girl too, just so heavily brainwashed by her social circles that it was hard to peel away the distrust of science and medical professionals.
