He ran the ball less than any other team in college football by a large margin
every year he coached at WSU.
This year they ran the ball on 22 percent of plays (least in CFB for the 8th straight year). The next lowest was San Jose State who ran the ball on 36 percent of plays. Other air raid offenses ran the ball quite a bit more: USC on 42 percent of plays; SMU on 51 percent of plays; OU on 58 percent of plays; and even Texas tech under Kingsbury ran on 42 percent of plays. Everyone else has evolved but Leach sticks to his philosophy regardless.
He absolutely does refuse to run the ball. He will even throw passes with under three minutes left and a >7 point lead. That's how he lost to UCLA this year. It's stubbornness pure and simple.

1 or 2-loss SEC teams are far more likely to make the CFP than a 1-loss PAC team. Because the PAC sucks.

I think there is a clear ceiling for talent at WSU. Likely wants to see what he can do with SEC kids.
