Is that after one person assumed that may be what happened, others started expressing displeasure about BYU doing it; the answering posts seemed to take it as fact and not an assumption and some seemed rather upset. Granted, I'm going of text, which typically doesn't explain emotion well; but I suspect that is the complaint.

To often, it seems like someone speculates and others then start repeating it as if it is fact — and people get upset over this assumption. Cougarboard does, at times, seem to devolve into a mob mentality. Granted, in that sense it is likely little different than other message boards, just that it can make this board toxic, at times.
