Uh, housing decisions involve a lot more than just thinking about whether you

want to be in an HOA. Many people who are in an HOA and don’t like it did plenty of research to know what the HOA means, and still made the decision to buy the house for one of the other 100 reasons people buy houses.

That’s like saying that a BYU student should like everything about the HC because they knew it existed going in. One can live with the HOA, be fully aware of it, live by the rules, and still not like everything about it.
