The landscape both at BYU and college football has change.
If the current HC enforcement and academic requirements had been in force during BYU's golden years, many of the players, on those teams, would not have qualified or lasted long.
The changes to the cfb landscape is well documented. Since 2014, there are two de facto subdivisions in FBS. It is becoming increasingly difficult to recruit against teams in the upper division.
