I have a logical thought that could make your paranoia worse. Maybe don't read?
But your eyelids are not going to protect your eyes from glass or metal that is being hurled from a garbage disposal. It doesn't accomplish anything to close your eyes. At least, physically. Maybe it helps mentally.
