Sorry, but BYU was 33rd in 2018 in defensive S&P. #1 in IsoPPP which is a huge deal in terms of preventing scoring. Stats prove that your chance of scoring goes down a lot without explosive plays. Continuing with S&P, they were 28th rushing, 14th passing, 12th on passing downs.
104 success rate which by definition is good.
They were bad in Havok as we all know, but being incredibly good in isoppp kind of negates that. Impressive really, because they don't go together. Impressive even while slightly frustrating. Or I should say, frustrating that it's impressive.
Raw numbers:
28th scoring defense.
25th rushing yds/game.
31st pass/gm
18th in total defense, which means they were balanced in order to move up in the rankings, while other schools were more bipolar in likely selling out to stop either the run or pass.
I mean, in terms of the overall result and functioning of that defense, tell me how it was bad. And yes, it was above average.
You should look at the numbers instead of articles talking about our DL.
Lol at masking deficiencies. Plenty of defenses have that. Shoot Broncos defenses were built on masking corner deficiencies.
