I've seen plenty of former college (and some former pro) athletes coaching
their kids. You will find them more in the competitive leagues rather than rec.
I feel bad for dad coaches sometimes. Most of the time they are just there to pitch in and have a positive experience with their kids. With that said I've seen the type of dad coach you describe.
