Fair to the kids who signed up and got thrown together(not). Which was my overall point in the first place.
YOU aren't coaching kids who physically can not play man.
Yes if i had a stacked team of kids with hs b ball aspirations, or of kids who were going to stay together with me as a team for six years or more. Or who were all the good football players(great athletes) i would
Play much more man too.
But in a city rec league..None of that makes much sense. The kids just want to have some fun and get better than they are.
When i have coached instead of telling the kids and their parents what i was going to do. I asked them what they wanted the season to be about.
Development, winning. Having fun, etc. We discuss what the team wants and then set those goals and design practice and games around that.
At the mid point we have a short meeting and discuss any changes to those goals that the team wants to make and carry on.
Different leagues and teams have different goals and this should be coached differently.
