People are the worst sometimes. Was your wife turning left into the
intersection? I could be wrong, but if so, I believe you probably will need to prove that the light was red either by a camera or witnesses or whatever you can find. Otherwise, I believe the left turn vehicle is always at fault because it is their responsibility to only proceed when it is clear.
