Ask your wife the following questions, then consider what the actual answers probably are verses her perception.
1. How many feet or yards away would you say the car that hit you was when you started your turn? (DON'T EVER DESCRIBE THINGS IN EXACT MEASUREMENTS BTW)
2. How fast was he going?
3. What color was the light when you started through the intersection?
4. Were you looking up at the light? Or at the oncoming traffic when you started your turn?
5. If you were looking at the light, how do you know how far away he was when you started your turn?
6. If you were looking at oncoming traffic, how do you know what color the light was when you started your turn?
7. If you didn't see him/her, why not? If you did see him, then why did you start your turn in front of him?
etc. etc. etc.
