Contrite, as in broken heart and contrite spirit
Why do we pronounce it KAHN-TRITE (equal emphasis on both syllables and a Kahn pronunciation on the first syllable) in a church setting, specifically in that phrase, and kuhn-TRITE everywhere else? Makes no sense to me. I refuse to conform. Am I wrong? Help me out here.
