I’m not saying my proposal would impact me at all.
But I’m trying to wrap my head around the idea of not feeling badly for someone whose income drops from $300k to $200k because of factors (i.e., the shutdown) outside their control. One would have to be pretty far out of touch to think that those people aren’t hurting or that it’s their fault for not being vast reserves in place, especially when you consider the cost of living in many metro areas.

I also can’t see the logic in arguing that someone who made $50,000 in 2019 and also makes $50,000 in 2020 deserves some kind of stimulus check from the government. Unless you view this as nothing more than a handout to help non-rich people, as opposed to an attempt to soften the blow of the shutdown. That’s fine, someone with that mentality should just own the fact that the are simply looking for an opportunity to get over on people who have more money.
