He's still learning

Let's be honest, it would be very difficult to follow Mark Pope because of his enthusiasm and marketing ability.  Mark Madsen is a really good guy, but coaching the college game is very different than the pros.  College kids need time and a lot of effort to develop their game.  I have heard that Madsen's style is pretty "hands-off", that he expects his guys to bring their own effort, energy, and confidence.  He's not negative, but isn't really a motivator and great communicator like Pope was.  That's pretty much what I've heard from a few connections.  Pope has shown the power of connection and motivation and belief.  He talks as if he's already achieved it (storming the court, playing Kentucky and Duke, etc.).  Madsen is much more laid back and not as much of a marketer.  I believe Madsen will be successful but there's a learning curve from college to pros and from assistant to head coach.
