Not vastly like the difference of what it was the decade before 2012
but yes I think the steady drip of many negative aspects continues to hurt BYU. There is not the same cultural affinity for BYU that there once was. The LDS Church is less geographically insular and kids are comfortable elsewhere. BYU is not as committed to competing on the highest levels as it once was- not to think I believe it ever really was but I do think there was more desire from those in charge than I think there is now.

I don't think BYU football is where it is now because of Kalani Sitake. This situation has materialized over many years and many decisions. I also think a great deal of it is outside of BYU's control. Fundamentally there is a limit to what BYU will do for competitive football and even if they did more than what they are doing I am not so sure it could drastically influence the outcome.

It was fun when BYU was legit but I honestly don't think it will do much better than Kalani has provided unless the landscape of college football changes. I understand Kalani is not real good. Telling me that losing to USF and Toledo is or ought to be unacceptable is not something I am not already aware of. I just honestly don't think a head coach who is really good will come to BYU right now. Why would they?
