My loyalty is to myself and my family above most or all institutions.
That includes the US of A but not the church, though I have empathy for people who leave the church because their son or daughter is gay, even though I wouldn’t personally.

Ultimately in life you need to do what is best for yourself and your family. Sports is just sports, jobs are just jobs.

Devin has worked his whole life to set himself up to prepare for the NFL. For most people it’s a pipe dream, for him given his genetics and bloodline it is a 50/50 bet. In ten years, you don’t want to sit home and say “well I squandered four years playing where they didn’t develop me and at the wrong position, but at least I stayed loyal!” That kind of attitude won’t feed your family one day. I’m not saying he is 100% right, but the number of people who have the genetics to play in the NFL is so small that you’ve got to do everything in your power to maximize your opportunity.

I’ve remained consistent throughout my life that if my son were a great QB in the 80’s or 90’s I would send him to play for Lavell, if he were a good or great DL in 2020 I’d send him to play for Kyle. Who cares about a Jersey color when you’re talking about making a living and potentially generational money.
