Into the legal field, but if you want to go to law school in Utah, your choices are BYU and Utah. So many Utah kids go out-of-state to another school in the 15-50 ranking range thinking they can apply for a job in Utah when they graduate. In most law markets, even if you went to an out-of-market law school, being originally from that area is usually enough to put you on similar footing as grads from in-market schools—in fact, sometimes it's an advantage because some firms want diversity in educational background. I went to law school at Minnesota, and many of my friends from places like California or Illinois or New Jersey who wanted to go back to their home states had no problem competing for jobs there.
Granted, I can't talk from direct experience, but based on what I've heard from friends, it seems like with Utah, there are so many kids who want to come back that aren't enough well-paying jobs for most of them plus the Y and U law grads. So the Y or U kids get priority because of their local alumni network, while those that left the state for school end up staying out of state.
