This is so correct. On a much smaller stage, I have been coaching youth 6-18yrs
for about two decades. I see kids and know what they need to improve on and coach them on it, but there is so little time to really work on it that it is on them when we are not there and in the off-season to really get better. I tell my best kids, "everyone always catches up" as a warning that they need to continue to work when they are not at practice if they really want to be good. Those that are the best it's a warning, and for those that are not very good it is encouragement that they can become among the best.

I will say this, in my experience, the most successful coaches are the ones that are able to put the kids in the positions where they are most successful. Just because someone loves a certain position, doesn't mean that will be or is their best position. What I don't get is if Devon should have tried TE or given OLB a better shot (after all the two defensive standouts in the NFL right now from BYU were OLB's). Sometimes you what you want and what is best are not aligned (most times for me 🙂 ).
