That’s a great quip. In the same conversation David (singer) says {spoilers}
“I could never pay tithing though” and Arthur says something like “what’s so hard about that? It’s like an agent’s fee.”

For me the two most powerful scenes in the movie are the reunion of Arthur and David at the rehearsal and Arthur’s prayer before the band takes the stage for their show in London.

When the band begins rehearsing for the music festival, the scene where David Johansen arrives is kind of set up to be the climax of the movie as Arthur has so much anxiety about seeing David again. David shows up halfway though a song and pulls out his notebook and starts singing like nothing has changed. And through the song and the greeting afterward you can see the decades of anxiety melt away for Arthur. As Joseph Smith said to W. W. Phelps, “friends at first are friends again at last.”

I also love Arthur’s touching prayer he offered with the band before they went out to play their live show. He was so sincere. The band actually clapped for him after they said amen. I thought that was a very genuine reaction. That prayer, his discussion about tithing and the word of wisdom that you noted in your comment show what an a great “member missionary” Arthur was. I don’t think that was something the filmmaker expected but it is one of the surprising and great themes of this movie is Arthur is sharing the gospel in his own way with the most unlikely of groups.
