Five big changes I'd make to sports, from most feasible, to least.

This is just for a fun discussion, not to get people all riled up.

1. I'd reform the NCAA football system, simplifying it into several superleagues to encompass all teams, with a true 16 team playoff at the end. Most fans would love to see this happen, except maybe a few SEC homers who think their conference has a birthright to always play for the NC. Chance of this happening: possible.

2. I think a 3X3 league of retired NBA players over the age of 40 would be a blast to watch. A lot of guys retire still wanting to play ball, and while maybe they can't compete against the young guns anymore, there would be enough interest to make a pro-league viable, I think. Chance of this happening: possible.

3. Relegation for pro-sports leagues in the U.S. This is one of the best things about Euro-style leagues, in my opinion. You can't tank for the draft pick, because you'll get sent down to a lower league. It would also allow smaller cities to have B-league teams that might claw their way up to the majors, and add a fun element to watching the standings. Chance of this happening: very slim.

4. I'd put limits on football substitutions and speed up the play clock. We'd get a faster game, with less downtime between plays, and we'd also remove all those 300 lbs guys from the rosters, replacing them with 240 pound guys who had the stamina to play for five or ten minutes at a stretch. The game would be a lot more fun to watch without changing anything about the fundamentals. Chance of this happening: extremely unlikely, but possible if it could be shown to lead to fewer injuries.

5. Soccer is fun and exciting to watch, but there's not enough scoring. It means one missed shot or one perfectly timed flop can decide the game. If you expanded the size of the goal enough to where a typical game was scored more like a hockey or baseball game (6-4 or 7-3), it would be far more fun to watch, in my opinion. Chance of this happening: close to zero.
