chilango Intervention Needed
I hate social media and don't trust or use it. I don't even have Instagram,
Facebook, Snapchat, or any other type of social media accounts, except for LinkedIn (because I was looking for a job at one point) and Twitter, which I set up (and have used) exclusively to vote in BYU sports-related polls a few times.

But I'll be a devil's advocate in this debate, and argue that maybe social media does provide some worthy benefits to society. As annoying as it is, doesn't social media provide immediate and unfiltered feedback to people who would otherwise be oblivious about how their comments or positions are perceived? For those who don't trust the media, either mainstream or right-wing or whatever, doesn't social media provide an alternate source of information and feedback, other than what the media propagandists want you to perceive? This would seem to be a pretty important and valuable function.

If we take the Drew Brees example, without social media he might be clueless today about how his teammates and many others in the NFL are perceiving and reacting to what he said. He would eventually figure it out, but by knowing now, he has a better opportunity to repair the damage and win back the locker room and get his teammates back on his side before it's too late. Rather than having it fester for a while, as might have been the case without social media, he was able tackle it head-on right now, for better or worse. If I were in his position, I would prefer this to the alternative.
