my buddy was the assistant head baseball coach at BYU when Vance Law was HC and he told me the baseball share of the Nike deal and how it worked. And of course this was several years ago so it’s worth more now.
He told me baseball was given a budget from Nike of just over $200,000.00 so if the entire thing was only $500,000 then (assuming your guess is correct and it’s a million now) then baseball would have had a disproportionately large piece of the Nike money.
He told me that the way it worked was he got a catalog from Nike with pricing for each item and then he would go through the catalog and pick out the uniforms, cleats, gloves, bats, bags, hats, coats, warmups, etc and then put the order in to Nike. It would come out of that amount allotted to the baseball team. He said he’d use the entire allotment every year.
So based on the baseball team getting over 200k I have to assume footballs budget was far larger than that and that the contract had to be a million or more even back then. I assume it must be several million now.
