A few incorrect binary leaps in there.
Being a big fan of BYU does not equate to Love of the decision makers. Tom and his superiors have made some huge mistakes.

If there was a chance to get into a P5 conference and they killed the deal, they basically put BYU sports on the road to oblivion.

I hate what they did to the rugby program, taking the top program in the nation, even above Cal, and killed it. BYU is not even an after thought in national championship discussions.

But this is about BYU football.

I state unapologetically that Kalani, flat out, ain't no question about it, simply does NOT have the mental make-up or capacity or horsepower to be a successful head coach. I question if he would, on his own, be a good position coach. I don't believe he would be a successful high school coach in a larger school division.

On a dominatingly regular basis under Kalani, BYU football games, strategy, actual play, and results are stupefying. Rarely can we say, Kalani out-coached the opposing coach. Most of the time, you simply scratch your head and scream "what were they thinking!" The mark of a good or great coach is not the occasional win over a "name" opponent, rather the regular inexplicable losses to wretched teams. BYU still wins, but you go away thinking we were lucky.

EVERY game is a toss-up betting against the house that Kalani will have a great or even good game plan. I didn't have those concerns with Lavell or Bronco. But BYU is out-coached more often than not under Kalani. Do we lose all the games we are out-coached? Of course not. Doesn't mean we had the smarter coach. 80+% of the time, we did not.

Yes, Kalani is underpaid compared to Dabo or Nick, or most of the coaches in college football. Compared to most of our salaries though, I'd say he is doing OK. $1.5-2+ million a year is not all THAT bad.

Do I want Kalani to succeed? Absolutely; because he coaches BYU. I want him to win every game, be undefeated every year, win every NC, every year.

Do I think he is a good coach based on 4 years of .500 ball, an occasional win over a good program, regular losses to pitiful teams? NO. Absolutely not. Not even close to being even an average head coach. I truly believe he would not be a successful high school coach. But....we've got him.

Do I want him to win. Absolutely yes.
