RE: Some Random Thoughts on Hamilton....
This strikes me as a very "Mormon bubble" take.

1. The play wasn't written for performance in the stake center. IMO, The places where it was used were not in poor taste.

2. Joseph is a really fun musical with a bit of a slapstick humorous takes on various genres of music (FWIW Close Every Door is one of my top 3 Andrew Lloyd Webber songs). Hamilton is a generational masterpiece. I do not follow rap and R&B closely enough to know all of the nuances of the styles Lin Manuel Miranda was paying homage to, but there were so many variances of style within the rap/R&B genre in this musical that I could appreciate. It's probably just not your genre of music.

3. You're taking issue with An immigrant writing about another immigrant rather than recognizing the brilliance of making a musical that has called attention to an oft-forgotten key person in the founding of the nation? Yikes - you are looking at the wrong things here. Virginians and Southerners getting ripped off? Okay, but would the country have been as strong if Jefferson had implemented his anti-banking policies (go look up his views on banks and ask yourself if the US would have become the economic power it is by following those views)? There were hard choices to be made at a critical juncture of the country, and history shows the right choice was made in creating a central bank.

Hamilton the man was far from perfect. His federalist ideas at the Constitutional Convention were extreme in the federal powers and authoritarianism and were glossed over in the musical. Many of his other flaws were addressed directly in the musical - impulsiveness, infidelity, difficulty compromising, pride and arrogance, and grudges and abilities to insult people and to make enemies (Jefferson, Burr, Adams, etc.).

My opinion (and most people's opinions) - The musical is a work of brilliance in every way. But you are more than entitled to your own opinion, and it sounds like you enjoy many of the same other musicals I do as well. BTW, if you haven't seen Come From Away, I'd highly recommend it (warning that it does have some language).
