It's kind of criminal, honestly, the decisions we make to be convenient for
adults that puts kids mental, cognitive, and physical health at risk. Really bizarre and terrible that we do that in society. Another bizarre thing is which professions we choose to regularly sleep deprive ... like doctors. In what universe does it make sense to deprive doctors of sleep so they are more likely to make mistakes when working on us? And yet medicine is one of the most brutal professions for sleeping. And yes, I understand the ER must have somebody staffing it all night long ... but more I'm talking about things that are optional, like med school, rotating optional shifts, and early morning surgeries. Medical errors are now the 3rd leading cause of death in the country! Let's get those doctors some more sleep.
