It's one of the most traditionally musical musicals in a long time:

It uses consistent motifs and themes both for characters (Alexander, Eliza, and Angelica all have their own themes in the way their names are sung) and for concepts (Wait For It, Look Around, Enough, Room Where It Happens) that come around again and again in the play in different ways that turn the concept upside down. It's really quite incredible
