Anyone with even the smallest amount of music evaluation capability would notice that the lead’s performance ability is sub par.

You are talking about words. I am talking about music. Rap is all lyrics and ruthym and almost no music. Rapping require rhythm and lyrics only.

The lyrics were brilliant IMO but the music fell short. I can read lyrics in a book and prefer that to listening to it on mostly a rap

Some guys probably are entertained by listening to someone reading poetry. Not my thing. I like music.
