Minuteman Missile historic site and Badlands National Park.
Slightly out of the way, but close enough to Mt. Rushmore to make it an easy visit.

Another place I enjoyed visiting was the Black Thunder Coal mine in Wyoming. Very impressive. Not sure if they are open
