While it probably doest not happen cincy has very little to lose.
If they beat byu and are otherwise undefeated they will be strongly considered for playoff even though probably won’t make it. If they lose a close game they probably still have a better than 80% chance of getting the g5 ny6 bowl game

There is another reason for both schools to do it. It guarantees that they are not playing each other in NY6 game.
