Oh man. So glad you guys made it without serious physical injury!
The home and tree and everything else in it can mostly be replaced, I suspect.

As to the trauma, I'm sure he was traumatized. In fact, you all probably were. Talk to each other, regularly and openly about it. Express your love to your wife and kids and your gratitude that you're all OK. (You have probably already done so, but keep doing so). Encourage them to do the same.

Try to make this as fun a displacement as possible. Take some time off work. Go skiing, sledding, snowshoeing. If insurance is putting you up in a hotel, go swimming, get favorite dinners, have movie nights with double features.

And if the trauma and anxiety continues, therapy can have a powerful impact and can help equip kids (adults too!) with coping mechanisms, calm, and orientation.

Watch out for your own signs of trauma and anxiety, too.

Be mindful, be thoughtful, be prayerful, find others whom you can serve.

Wishing you a great Christmas. And please keep us posted on how things go.

Much love from ebv house.
