Comparing us to the dentist in the WSJ hurts. That guy needs a reality check.
On the flip side, I am nearly 40 and only finished training a few years ago. My kids are nearing high school. At what point should I move out of my starter home? When my kids are gone? Also, should I take into account the ever increasing real estate market? Better to get into a more expensive home now than when it costs 50% more? My take: provided you can afford the mortgage comfortably with your student loan payments and other expenses, go for it.

Regarding lavish vacations and new cars, I agree. Those can wait.
