having basement renters. Not only that there were restrictions and legalities around separate mailboxes, Private entrances, fire escapes and we kind of walked through all of that blindly. So basically we had an illegal renter for a year. Fortunately, we had to move and ended up renting the whole house out for the next year. So we got the place legal, but I'd highly recommend paying a real estate lawyer and making sure you are meeting all the requirements for essentially turning your place into a duplex.
