We mostly treat our dishwasher as a disinfector. All the food / grease should
be rinsed off in my opinion. It just keeps most of the dishwasher problems away for much much longer.
This could be a relic of older model dishwashers not being as good and I've never adapted to the times, but it's never let me down.

If it is greasy, you may want to try some form of industrial grease cleaner.

That probably means your dishwasher isn’t draining all the way. Check to see if your filter is clogged.
