Actually the newer models are the problem.
Dishwashers went from poor to amazing and then down to worthless.

Worthless occurred when the Federal government in its infinite wisdom decided to mandate greater energy efficiency for them.

However the dishwashers, in a bid to be quieter, had already made them very efficient. So instead they had to cut power below what was needed to actually clean the dishes. That and they killed the drying cycle.

Hence dishwashers became glorified sterilization machines that leaves everything wet.
