Approximate Value is Era-adjusted
Although, if you prefer we can use Weighted Approximate Value which gives more weight to peak seasons and less to longevity.

That moves Rivers from #12 all-time (#6 among QBs) and tied with Marino to...#11 all-time (#7 among QBs) and slightly ahead of Marino.

If you look at his similarity scores, you'll see guys like Tony Romo who had a 3 year span similar to him at some point. But if you look at players who had <10 years similar to Rivers you get the closest matches as:

Russell Wilson
Tom Brady
Drew Brees
Brett Favre
Joe Montana
Matt Ryan
John Elway
Dan Marino

Andy Dalton has 3 pro bowls, Romo has 4, comparing that to 8 is absurd. That's like saying Alex English (8x All-Star, NBA Scoring Leader) can't be a HOFer because Alvin Robertson got 4 and Mark Aguirre got 3 and aren't HOFers.

Rivers outproduced every other member of his draft class. Among QBs entering the league in the decade of 2001-2010 Rivers is #3 (behind Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees).

Like I said, he's not inner circle, but have to put him in. In three different seasons he led the league in either yardage, TDs or percentage. Multiple seasons in MVP contention. He's not just a product of a long career, that's a solid peak as well.
