Our 10 year old Golden is a great dog. Member of the family. Best pet ever.
But shes old and sore. I'd never spend $5k on a hip surgery or similar. I dont think the dog would want that either.
Thing is, even when she was young and healthy I wouldn't have spent more than maybe 1 or 2 K on a vet bill.
Meanwhile all 5 of our kids had expensive orthodontics. Total nearly $40k out of pocket.
Priorities.

I would spend no money on the 15 year old shih tzu and <5K on the 4 year old golden doodle. My wife would probably spend
