12 - 16 schools adds four weeks to the schedule so no real difference in weeks
With 10 conferences plus independents, each conference champion would receive a spot. The Independent would provide one school. That school could either be the highest ranked of the independents or hold a playoff game with the top two independents on conference championship weekend. Making the auto selection eleven (11) schools.
I would then add three (3) at-large schools based on SOS/ranking.
A 14 school playoff would give the top two teams a bye and include all conferences and possibly a Cinderella story for the smaller conferences.
A 14 school playoff has my vote, despite not being a choice. It would mean one or two less regular season games, as would 12 or 16 game playoffs
