Has to be 16 team....only way we can get any intrigue. Also the only way BYU
will have a decent shot of making the playoff. We just witnessed how difficult it was to stay in the top 12 even.
All the FBS conference champions get an automatic bid (just like in basketball) and then the rest are at large teams, with the teams seeded according to whatever magical formula they come up with for seeding (also just like in basketball).
If they are worried about teams playing too long, maybe give byes to the top few teams since they have the greatest likelihood of playing deeper into the tournament (just like the NFL).
It would actually be a pretty simple process to run a tournament like that. And it would be FANTASTIC for fans and for bank accounts.
