You're putting too much weight in to the school and not enough in the person.
A BYU grad typically scores higher and achieves more. However, this isn't just because they went to BYU. They had higher scores and achievements even before they went to BYU.

For some fields it may be more advantageous (e.g. business, sales), but it's not everything. And in this particular case, Harding being a former NCAA basketball player at both BYU and UVU is going to carry a lot of weight if he happens to want to do business/sales. The BYU/UVU basketball player thing will stand out more than just saying "BYU grad" on his resume. He'll be all right.
